This information is intended to help our players understand how they may, or may not, have been placed on a particular team. This information may also aid you when you are making any “special requests” with your registration for the 2008-2009 season.
When will the draft take place?
The draft will be October 2, 2008.
Who will be at the draft?
Your FWHA board members, team sponsors, and team reps only. 2 people per team, no exceptions.
How will the board know who is a team sponsor and who is a team rep?
If you are a sponsor or a rep, you must indicate that on your registration. If you are interested in being a team rep, you must contact a sponsor and ask them to designate you as such. The board must know 2 days prior to draft who will be attending. If we are short reps and or sponsors, the board will take care of it.
Is there anyone who is not invited to the draft?
Yes. This draft is for a women’s league. Therefore we will only have WOMEN there. Please do not invite your husband, brother, father, or whoever. There are absolutely no COACHES allowed. Coaches are volunteers and not all teams have coaches. While their input may be invaluable on the bench, we are going to leave the team draft to the players.
What is the process for picking players at the draft?
All players have a rating that has been determined from the previous season. If you are new, we have a rating that indicates that as well. Team reps/sponsors will draw numbers for picking order. Players will be picked by that rep/sponsor and we will make our way from “A” skaters (high skill level) to “E” skaters (new skaters). The players picked by each rep/sponsor will be visible to all. Once we have picked we will then try to honor “special requests”.
Is there any player who is guaranteed a spot on a particular team?
Yes. The only 2 players will be guaranteed a spot on a team will be the team sponsor and the team rep. That is it. No exceptions. They will have to choose themselves first when they reach the rating group in which they are placed.
Can I request to be on a team with a friend?
Yes! This is what we mean by “special request”. You are allowed 1 reciprocal request only. This means player Gladys writes “Gladys would like to play on a team with Rosie” .Rosie then writes “Rosie would like to play on a team with Gladys”. That is a reciprocal request. We are only honoring 1 request, so please do not request 1 person, then 10 others because they are your sister, mother, babysitter, or whatever. We are going to try SO hard to make everyone happy, but please understand that is a tall order and we are doing our best!!
How will goalies be chosen?
Whichever team rep/sponsor drew the last number for the picking order of players, will go first to pick their goalie. Goalies must play for the team which they are placed. No special request for goalies. If they are a goalie who skates out as well, then the request rules apply to them as a player.
